Biographical history

John A. Miller (1877-1970) was a Lutheran pastor in Canada and the USA, and president of the Board of Governors of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (now Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) in Waterloo, Ontario.

Miller was born in a log house near Williamsford, Ontario in 1877. He was educated in the United States of America, graduating from the Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. After being ordained in 1903, Miller served several parishes in Canada and the USA, including: St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan from 1903 to 1908; St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Ontario from 1908 to 1910; Trinity Lutheran Church in Hamilton, Ontario; St. Paul English Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa.

Rev. Miller had an interest in education and youth. In 1908 he became the founding president of the Luther League of Canada. He also served as president of the Board of Governors of the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary in Canada (now Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) which opened in 1911. In 1966 he received an honorary degree from Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfrid Laurier University) in recognition of his leadership and dedication.

John A. Miller died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 22, 1970.
