Biographical history

Andreas T. Hjortaas (1879-1951) was a Lutheran pastor in western Canada, and a member of the Board of Directors of Camrose Lutheran College. Born in Norway on July 2, 1879, Hjortaas immigrated to the United States 1901. Following his graduation from the Chicago Theological Seminary in 1906 and the Red Wing Minnesota Seminary in 1908, Hjortaas was ordained in the Hauges Synod. Hjortaas relocated to Canada where he served as a pastor at a number of Lutheran Churches in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and was a member of the Board of Directors at the Camrose Lutheran College from 1910 to 1913. Hjortaas retired in 1947, and died on October 31, 1951.

The fonds contains material that documents the life of Andreas Thoreson Hjortaas. It includes journals, sermon notes, notes on Hjortaas' life and a diploma from the Chicago Theological Seminary , dating from 1908 to 1986.
