Administrative history

The Advisory Committee on Academic Restructuring was established by Wilfrid Laurier University Vice-President: Academic, Dr. Don Baker in October 1992. The purpose of the committee was to review academic practices at Laurier, and make resources work more effectively, at a time of major funding challenges.

The committee was formed in view of the Administration's proposal to reduce costs by $600,000 in each of three years beginning with 1993-1994.
The committee was asked to :
1. Review academic practices, including but not limited to the delivery of the curriculum, with a view to improving efficiency, effectiveness and quality.
2. Review administrative practices in academic units with a view to greater efficiency, effectiveness and quality.
3. Recommend measures which would sustain present quality or yield higher quality and greater economy in the operation of the Faculties

The committee was chaired by Wilfrid Laurier University faculty member Barry Gough. Ten committee members were selected from stakeholder groups across campus, including faculty, staff and students.

The committee's final report was submitted to Dr. Don Baker in March 1993.
