Dates of existence

1985 -

The Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students’ Association (WLUGSA) was formed in 1985 as the Graduate Student’s Society with the mandate to foster a community spirit for graduate students and advocate for concerns (both internal and external) that affect the graduate student population. In 1986 the organization adopted its current name – the Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students’ Association.

In 1997, the Graduate Student’s Association opened the Grad House as part of a larger graduate facility located at 22 Bricker Avenue. The Grad House featured a pub and was created in order to provide a social space catered to the graduate student community as well as the general public. The Grad House ceased operations in 2002 when the University acquired the facility from the GSA. The facility was demolished and the Science Research Building was erected in its place. The GSA administration was relocated to its current location in the Student Services Building. In 2012, the GSA opened Veritas Café. Operated by an external company, it was the first independent business endeavor undertaken by the GSA since the closure of the Bricker Avenue facility.

The current WLUGSA organizational structure consists of a Board of Directors, a 4-person Executive team (President elected by full membership, and 3 hired Executive members), and staff.
