History

Neale Taylor (1917-1986) was the Vice President: Academic (1972-1978) and President of Wilfrid Laurier University (1978-1982). Prior to these positions, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 1968-1972.

Taylor was born in Windsor, Ontario in 1917. He received a BA, MA and PhD from the University of Toronto, earning his PhD in Romance Languages. After earning his doctoral degree, Taylor did post-graduate research at both the National University of Mexico and Laval University in Quebec City. He spent 1958-1959 in Spain and France researching on a Humanities Research Council Grant. He was awarded an honorary LL.D from the University of Waterloo.

Taylor died on May 11th, 1986 at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital at the age of 68.
