Biographical history

Jacob Werth (1812-1890) was a Lutheran pastor in Waterloo Region, Ontario. Werth was born in Germany on March 19, 1812. He is believed to have been pastor of several churches in Waterloo Region, including: St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Heidelberg, during the 1850’s; St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elmira, 1852-1859; St.Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Conestogo, 1857-1860.

The collection contains an untitled marriage register documenting marriages in Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich Townships in Ontario from 1852 to 1859. The ledger is ascribed to Jacob Werth.

Also contains an article about Jacob Werth and the marriage register written by Brooke Skelton in 2008, and two versions of her transcription of the marriage register.
