Scope and content

This series contains source material from the Western Canada District of the United Danish Evangelical Church of Canada from 1896 to 1960. It consists of correspondence, minutes, reports, financial and administrative records that document the activities of the Western Canada District of the United Danish Evangelical Church of Canada. The series also contains records from the Women’s Missionary Society. Organized in 1904, the Western Canada District of the United Danish Evangelical Church has its roots in Alberta. The United Danish Evangelical Church would later be known as the United Evangelical Lutheran Church, which would merge with the American Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1960 to become the American Lutheran Church. The Canadian segments of these Church bodies were referred to as the Canada District of the ALC, which would become the autonomous Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada in 1967.
